Interested in ordering a portrait of your "best friend"?
Here are some questions and answers that may be helpful.
What type of painting is this?
These are original paintings on stretched canvas. I paint in acrylic
and paint "edge-to-edge" so that there is no
need for additional framing.
All paintings have an archival varnish as the final coat to ensure that your
paintings are
long-lasting and easy to clean. Your painting comes "ready-to-hang" on your
walls.
How much do you charge?
Here are some
examples of sizes/prices:
18" x 24" - $950.
24" x 30" - $1,600.
30" x 36" = $2,400.
I charge strictly by the square inch at $2.20/sq. inch.
For example, if the painting is 24 x 32, that translates to
768 sq. inches. Multiply
768 x 2.20= $1689.60.
Tax in the state of West Virginia is an additional 6% or $101.37.
So the total price would be $1790.97.
(Shipping is not included in this price but we'd be happy to quote).
What sizes can you do?
Since we custom make all of our frames, you may request any size. The minimum size I paint is 18" x
24" ($950.).
For this size, only one
animal can be depicted. I prefer to work on canvases that are larger because more
detail can be explored.
What about color choices?
I do not paint the actual "strictly realistic" color of your
companion animal. Rather, I paint the color I perceive its personality to express.
I will talk with you about your companion and discover its personality traits (i.e.
is he/she
shy or outgoing, etc.). I will also find out what colors you like and
dislike. You also have input into what you'd
like to see as a background color.
However, the final rendition of the painting will be the choices I select to best
illustrate the personality and the background that goes with that selection.
How many animals can I have in the painting?
That depends on the size of the canvas. However, I insist that no more
than 3 animals be portrayed on one
canvas. This is because I want to focus on the
faces and personalities and since the colors are vibrant, too
many animals become too
chaotic.
How long does it take?
I'd be happy to quote a time when you
place your order. Most canvases can be completed in six weeks.
How does payment work?
I accept MasterCard or Visa, checks or money orders. A 50% payment is
made with the initial order and the remainder is paid when you pick up the painting.
If you have seen my work at one of the galleries who represent me, please be
sure to mention this when you order.
I have a few other questions. How do I contact you?

Do you have a studio I can visit so I can place my order in person?
Yes. We are open to the public by appointment. We are located in
Martinsburg, WV. See the link below for directions.
What do you need to get started?
Great photos! If you can locate at least three good shots of your
companion animal, that would be very good.
Try to take photos that are from the
"eye level" (rather than standing tall above your cat or dog and taking the
photo down). I am most interested in the eyes and head shot. I also prefer a
shot where the tongue is not
showing but can work with it, if it does. Bring the
best photos you have available. They will be returned to you
when the painting is
completed. A 50% deposit is required at the time you place your order.
