Kourin  is part of the Striving Series of Sculptures. It joins other sculptures that include: Eihei, Gambari, Ikkyou, Kyouko,  Noboru, Seidai, and  Toorimichi.

With Kourin I wanted to show motivation in a monolithic sculpture.  Putting a void in the middle of Kourin would have been cheating.  Kourin is about the joy of aspiring to new heights - both physically and or mentally - and achieving those goals. Kourin in addition to his color is also semi-translucent.

The Striving Series is composed of sculptures that either are inspiring (by trying to motivate you onward) or strong (conveying an attitude of not backing down)
